The MagSafe Charger is also compatible with older iPhone and some Android models that support wireless charging, but only at a maximum rate of 5 watts. Practical tests found that charging speed differences between 18-watt adapters for the iPhone 11 series and 20-watt adapters were negligible. On unsupported USB-C adapters, such as the 96-watt version for recent MacBook Pro models, the MagSafe Charger will only deliver up to 10 watts. ![]() However, it still functions at 13 watts when used with the older 18-watt adapter from the iPhone 11 series. This allows for charging at up to 15 watts on iPhone 12 models when used with the officially supported 20-watt USB-C Power Adapter from Apple. The MagSafe Charger includes a proprietary magnetic coil that aligns and attaches the charger to devices that contain matching coils. On July 13, 2021, Apple released the MagSafe Battery Pack, which itself can charge or be charged by a supported iPhone, but cannot be used simultaneously with the MagSafe Charger. Apple also announced the MagSafe Duo Charger, a foldable version that can simultaneously charge a supported iPhone and Apple Watch, which went on sale on December 1, 2020. It was announced in an Apple special event on Octoin place of the previously-announced AirPower charging mat project, which was cancelled in March 2019. The charger resurrects Apple's MagSafe brand and is based on the Qi wireless charging standard. ![]()
